Wise Words To Live By…

Posted: January 5, 2012 in Resolutions

As you pack up all of your holiday decorations and a bid a farewell to another holiday season, you may be thinking of the hope and the promise of what lies ahead for this New Year of 2012.  Have you gone through the ritualistic motion of setting goals for yourself  like so many do with the passing of the old and the dawn of a new year?  Did you dance in the delight that the goals you set for 2011 actually saw the light of day?  Or did you bid adieu to 2011 feeling somewhat bummed that yet another time in your life has passed where you had all good intentions but never followed through?  What ever the case may be, it’s time to be present in this moment – the right here and now – so that we can set ourselves on a course to a successful 2012.

So I thought a good quote, sort of a pep talk, if you will, was in order to set things straight for this New Year.  I chose the wise words of an oh so very astute man, character, icon, a pinnacle of insightfulness…………….the one the only……………Rocky Balboa!  Chuckle, snicker, gasp – I get it.  I bet you were waiting for some big name philosopher – weren’t you?  Nah – I chose a man of the people – for the people.  And now without further hesitation I bring you Wise Words To Live By…

“Let me tell you something you already know.  The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows.  It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it.  You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life.  But it ain’t how hard you hit;  it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward.  How much you can take, and keep moving forward.  That’s how winning is done.  Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth.  But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not point fingers saying you ain’t where you are because of him, or her, or anybody.  Cowards do that and that ain’t you.  You’re better than that!”

Right about now you may be questioning my choice of quote and how exactly I thought it was apropos for the start of 2012.  Let me share my line of thinking.  It can be incredibly difficult for many of us to look at our mistakes, failures and lack of follow through and take responsibility for them.  It is much easier to make excuses, blame others, blame the world…  And sometimes it just may be that it is not our fault, but I think most of us can recall times when we looked to someone else, or something else, to blame for our downfall.

It is time to buck up, own up and hold our heads up!  Each moment in time is a time to do the right thing, or fix what we didn’t succeed at the first time around.  We don’t have to wait for a new year!  There was never the promise on our birth certificate of a life filled with only beauty,  love, peace, and joy.  Along with all of those comes the ugly, hate, unrest, and pain.  So if we are lucky enough to plant our two feet on the floor another day – it’s time to make peace with that fact.

And now the grand finale of my blog – the tie in to health since that is what this site is all about.  Many resolutions involve getting fit, getting healthy and losing weight to name a few.  However many of those same resolutions never make it to the action stage.  I want this year to be different no matter what excuses you had in the past, or what life dealt you.  Not for nothing, but this is coming from a person who had a brain tumor in 2011!  So I know all too well how hard life can hit.  But the plain and simple truth is that we give up so easily on our health – on ourselves – WHY?  Aren’t we worth it?  We can’t change the past, but we can certainly write some aspects of our own future and when life has other plans for us – get the eraser out and rewrite a new course!  We are all worth it!

Much health and happiness in 2012!

Joanne

Very inspiring and oh so true! It IS way too easy to blame external elements instead of being accountable. Love this blog!

I agree! I think the quote is appropriate. It makes me want to fight for my goals. Getting healthier is one of them. So far so good, but a work in progress. Thanks for the inspiration to look inward and keep motivated!
